iSupport for Young People was adapted from the adult version of iSupport for dementia carers, in collaboration with young carers.
It is relevant to young people aged 11-17 with a family member or friend living with dementia. This is also available in Welsh.
Introducing iSupport for Young People
Introduces iSupport for Young People, how it was developed and an overview of all the modules.
Module 1 – Introduction to dementia
Provides an introduction to what dementia is and it discusses what happens to people with dementia and what to do if you think that your family member or friend has dementia.
Module 2 – Being a carer
Focuses on issues around improving communication and involving others in helping care for the person living with dementia.
Module 3 – Caring for me
Aims to reduce the young person’s stress by helping them think about the importance of finding time and getting help so that they can do the things they like doing.
Module 4 – Providing everyday care
Focuses on eating and drinking, including creating more pleasant mealtimes. It also discusses issues around preventing health problems, using the toilet and continence care, and personal care.
Module 5 – Dealing with behaviour changes
Provides an introduction to common symptoms and changes in behaviour that might be distressing and upsetting for both the person with dementia and for family members, including young members. These symptoms include memory loss, depression, anxiety, apathy, difficulty sleeping, delusions and hallucinations amongst others.
